All the world’s a catwalk…

This blog has been a very long time in the making. Countless times I’ve opened up my laptop, eventually remembered the obscure web address of my latest attempt, and then proceeded to stare in frustration at a large photo of my face with the words “you haven’t written your first post yet” beneath it. It all just seemed far too important to pick any old photo, any old theme, and churn out any old words to just get my long-anticipated fashion blog started.

First things first – who am I? I am a twenty-one year old English Literature student at Warwick University. During my time studying there, I have made some very close girlfriends who have coaxed out to its fullest extent my biggest weakness: fashion. Obviously, I blame them entirely for encouraging a terrible habit which regularly drains my bank account… But after it becoming an ambition to join the fashion industry, I suppose can’t point the finger any longer. I wanted therefore to have an outlet of all my thoughts, and the thoughts of those around me, on the bizarre but wonderful world of clothing. As a literature student, no blog of mine would be complete without the occasional literary reference, some terrible puns, and possibly even some philosophical pondering (shock horror).

Things that matter to me are the environmental sustainability of clothes, the importance of dressing up (in all of its glorious manifestations), and the defining yet complicated relationship between women and clothing. Virginia Woolf said that “clothes are but a symbol of something hid deep beneath”, and I think she was absolutely right. Above all what matters to me is the defining power of clothing and it ability to carve the wearer’s identity – for better or worse. I’ll be writing lots about vintage clothing; a current obsession of mine which I hope to uphold in the future by sticking to my NY’s resolution to boycott fast fashion. Expect to hear lots of opinions from myself and my friends on various trends and purchases, and perhaps even the occasional star guest (don’t say I don’t treat you right).

So if any of this sounds like your cup of tea, stay tuned! More to come…
